The magazine Revista de Vinhos published an article about our Porto Vintage 2016 wines, the year with the largest Vintage declaration ever (63 brands). Our newly released Poças Vintage 2016 has received 18 points and was described as: “Dense and impenetrable ruby. Very fresh and springy nose, with elegant notes of blackberry, black plum, chocolate, coffee steam, tobacco leaf and spices. The mouth is silky, enveloping, tasty, with round but firm tannins, in an elegant profile, in which stands out the strength of the fruit and the spicy notes. A Vintage in a contemporary style, tamed and ready to drink, but which will continue to grow in the bottle over the coming decades.”
Our winemaker Jorge Pintão is seen as one of the oenologists who is leaving a mark in Port Wine.
ORIGIN: Portugal – Douro Demarcated Region
DESCRIPTION: A single harvest Port wine, produced only in years of exceptional quality. Aged in oak barrels, it is bottled between the second and third year after harvest. During aging in the bottle, it will gradually acquire the extraordinary style of a great wine of guard.
PAIRING: Ideal as a dessert or convivial wine, it pairs with very good quality cheeses, desserts and chocolates. Serve at room temperature (18ºC) after carefully decanted. It can be consumed straight away, or await a positive evolution in the bottle.

New poças visitor center born from the restoration of the old warehouses of the company

Sep 15, 2018
Our new visitor center was born from the restoration of the old cellars/warehouses in the headquarters of our company, located in the historical center of Vila Nova de Gaia. The works allowed to extend the tour circuit and created new rooms for events, meetings or lectures, each with its own character, operability and decoration that mixes memory and contemporaneity. The new wine tourism proposal includes the tour that enables visitors to know about our history (and to see how a cooperage workshop looks like), to feel the smell of a Port wine cellar and to learn how wine is produced. In specific moments it will be possible to take part in a dining experience, in a private tasting with the winemaker or in a musical concert.
The visitor center (Rua Visconde das Devesas 168, 4400-Vila Nova de Gaia) is open every day, from 10 am to 8 pm, from May to September, and from 10 am to 5:30 pm from October to April. Entrance is 6.50 euros/person and includes tasting two wines (white Port and red reserve). Additionally, it is possible to sample a wide range of Port wines and DOC Douro wines.
Guided tours are available in five languages (Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese).
The restoration project was signed by architects Lúcia Vaz Pato (tasting room) and António Mota (barrel room and private tasting room).

100th Anniversary dinner gathers customers, friends and producers

Oct 03, 2018
As part of a broad programme of commemorative activities taking place throughout 2018, Poças’ 100th anniversary dinner gathered more than a hundred customers, suppliers and friends of the company, among them several Douro producers, in the former home of Sophia de Mello Breyner’s grandmother, now owned by the University of Porto and home to the city’s botanical garden.
A symbolic choice, intersecting places and experiences and showing that wine sits well between culture and family. In fact, the association between art and the family has been the guiding thread of the cultural programme promoted as a celebration of the centenary, involving artists such as Capitão Fausto, Afonso Reis Cabral, the Theater Company of Bolhão and Bordalo II.
And since celebrating 100 years is also telling stories, this dinner was full of memories of the past, many memories, but without forgetting the challenges of the future.
