Our new visitor center was born from the restoration of the old cellars/warehouses in the headquarters of our company, located in the historical center of Vila Nova de Gaia. The works allowed to extend the tour circuit and created new rooms for events, meetings or lectures, each with its own character, operability and decoration that mixes memory and contemporaneity. The new wine tourism proposal includes the tour that enables visitors to know about our history (and to see how a cooperage workshop looks like), to feel the smell of a Port wine cellar and to learn how wine is produced. In specific moments it will be possible to take part in a dining experience, in a private tasting with the winemaker or in a musical concert.
The visitor center (Rua Visconde das Devesas 168, 4400-Vila Nova de Gaia) is open every day, from 10 am to 8 pm, from May to September, and from 10 am to 5:30 pm from October to April. Entrance is 6.50 euros/person and includes tasting two wines (white Port and red reserve). Additionally, it is possible to sample a wide range of Port wines and DOC Douro wines.
Guided tours are available in five languages (Spanish, French, English, Italian and Portuguese).
The restoration project was signed by architects Lúcia Vaz Pato (tasting room) and António Mota (barrel room and private tasting room).

2018: A year of top wine news

Nov 30, 2018
The wine launching that we held this month in Lisbon was very special, as we used the celebration of the centenary of Poças for the launch of top quality DOC Douro wines.
Branco da Ribeira 2017 (you can read here the review by Mark Squires, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate), our new top-of-the-range, presents itself with volume and very high acidity, reflecting the place where it comes from, a plot of the Quinta Vale de Cavalos, in Numão, in the Upper Douro, at 520 meters of altitude, from granite soils which are uncommon in the Douro.
Símbolo 2015 is the top-of-the-range red of our centenary, in its second edition. Produced from grapes harvested at Quinta de Santa Bárbara in Upper Corgo, the new Símbolo reflects the wine year of 2015, with full maturation earlier than in 2014, providing a powerful wine that already has a full aromatic expression. A toast from nature to the 100 years of Poças, as our winemaker Jorge Pintão puts it: “Símbolo 2015 is very complete and is already very pleasant to be tasted”.
During this wine presentation, the following wines were also tasted:
  • Poças Red Reserva 2016
  • Poças 10 Years Old White
  • Poças LBV 2013
  • Poças Colheita 2008
And, of course, our Very Old Tawny Port, Poças 1918, about which you can read here.

Launch of the new Poças wines

Jul 10, 2018

At the end of June, we hosted a lunch in our visitor centre for the launch of our new wines. In addition to showing our news, it was the chance to showcase our new premises!

We presented Branco da Ribeira 2017, our new top-of-the-range white wine. Produced from grapes grown on granitic soil, this wine praises the diversity of the Douro terroir and it is a tribute to the tenacity of the region. The wine will be available next Fall.

It was also the occasion to launch the wines Coroa d’Ouro Branco 2017, Coroa d’Ouro Tinto 2016, Vale de Cavalos Branco 2017, Vale de Cavalos Tinto 2016 and Porto Vintage 2016.

Lagarada at Quinta das Quartas

Oct 11, 2018
Celebrating 100 years opens the door to thinking about new challenges. We refurbished our wine presses at Quinta das Quartas and brought the past to the present.  As a way of celebrating, we invited friends, clients and employees to our Quinta das Quartas, in the Douro (Lower Corgo), where we revived the ritual of barefoot grape stomping – the lagarada.
Take a look at the photo gallery of a day of celebration. Our celebration.
Poças, what a lagarada!
